Week 32 - 3D Art

Rebel Flagship - p2

Ah, the high poly week. The most brutel of them all for me.
Very fun.

So tldr, I did most of my low poly last time. This week was 80% figuring out the internals + filling in the blanks myself. Then another 20% uprezzing and high poly work.

Some things, namely smaller bits, were basically done. They just needed an uprez version for normals. The main pieces that needed work was the hull and larger internals.

Anywho
Here's how it came out:

4 way of the final low poly

Some up close of the final low poly (to be retoped)

Jesus. I had so many many many problems and the high poly isn't even close to complete. I need to compeltely redo its geo in maya. This will take hours.

That's all. Thanks for reading.

Week 31 - Common Art

Metal Gear - Sprint 1

For this common art semester, I am doing metal gear rex as a solo project (details as to why can be found in sprint 0 I posted last week)

BUT for this week: I blocked out the model, built a model replica I'm using as referance, had to re-blockout things, and finally got everything in. And it's mixed rn. Some pieces are already to low res complete, others are def closer to the blockout.

Anyhow, here's how it came out:

Also here's the pureref board for prof's

Overall really liking how it's turning out so far. though gotta say, I think I bit off more then I could chew trying to do the entire referance gathering, blockout, and low poly for an object of this size in a single week.

So update to schedule

Sprint 2: Low Poly complete, start high poly (finish 5 pieces)
Sprint 3: finish high poly (8 remaining pieces)
Sprint 4: Retop, Uv, Bake + finished textures
Sprint 5: Polish based on feedback

Week 31 - 3D Art

3D Art - Rebel Flagship

So week 1 has come and gone, first real assignment is due.

As stated I am making the rebel flagship from FTL.

Here's what I got so far:

And here's a comparison shot as I've been using colors to help myself

and the original pureref for referance

Update to schedule

W2: Refine Low Poly, High Poly
W3: Retop, UV, and baking
W4: Textures finished + in engine

Week 30 - Common Art

Sprint 0  - Metal Gear Rex

For common art, we split the art cohort into teams to work on projects as a group!
So I  did the smartest thing imaginable and am working on a solo project c:

Jokes aside: None of the other projects has a role that was a good fit for me (AKA gave me enough interesting work to encompass the project and make a noticeable impact on said project)

So yeah. It was either become a DLC to another project or square up and be the star of my own. So I've decided to free bird it and see how it goes.

What I've decided to model is Metal Gear Rex from the original metal gear! The most modern rendition we have is the busted version from MGS4, and even that shows it age. So I've elected to make a realistic version of the original metal gear!

Here's a reference board:

There's a particular model of the MGR that seems to be accurate to the original! So I've ordered it and hopefully it will arrive next week for me to construct and use as reference, which would be a massive help as for once I'd be physically holding the reference I'm trying to model.

It's also just a really cool figurine to create and have.

So yah. This is my creation for this big project, and here's my schedule for it:

Sprints (2 weeks each)

1: referance board, blockout, lowpoly

2: High poly Hell (7 pieces, lower body)

3: Higher poly Hell (7 pieces, upper body)

4: retop, Uv, baking and basic textures

5: Finished textures, simple scene; optional vfx

6: Final polish based on feedback

Annndddd that's about it! I'll update things as I go, and hopefully the high poly doesn't nuke me. But otherwise, I'm good to go! Hopefully later on a VFX artist would be up to give it a laser, and maybe rig it? But we'll see.

Thanks for reading. See ya later alligator.

Week 30 - 3D Art

Week 30 - Rebel Flagship

For my first project I'm going to create a rebel flagship from FTL. It's one of the coolest ships in the game, so it'd be nice to create a 3D model of it.

Here is da reference and schedule:

so yah. My schedule for now is

Week 1: Blockout, Lowpoly,

Week 2: Highpoly

Week 3: Retop, UV, bake

Week 4: Textures N Scene

I'll move things around as I go, but what I'm hoping to do is crunch the first 3 weeks into 2, so I can have more time with the textures. BUT I'll see how that goes lol

Thanks for reading. See ya.
