Week 5 - 3D Art

Crate Project

This week we were tasked with a bigger, 3 part project. The first part was all maya and creating the geometry base for a crate or barrel of our choosing; I chose a crate because I preferred it over a barrel, but I still wanted to do something more complex I was interested in, and suffice to say I found a videogame crate candidate to reference and model.

Here's how it came out:

Andddddd that's about it.

Again this is part 1 of 3, and it's gonna get better as we go over it more. I look forward to polishing the companion cube more as I go forward.

Week 4 - Common Art

Maya Lighting & Values

This week we were given a few options for how to practice lighting; I chose to do it in Maya/Arnold as that was my undergrade and a proper refresh was nice. I was provided 3 well crafted bust models, all created by my 3D art professor Nick Zuccarello, to use in a Maya scene with lighting.

I also created something extra in the scene to provide lighting (as well as the other lights lol).

Here's how it came out:

Annnd that's about it. This was more a refresher on 3 point lighting and using Arnold properly VS learning and making something entirely new, but that also makes it one of the more enjoyable projects I've done thus far.

Thanks for reading. See ya next week.

Week 4 - 3D Art

Week 5 - Legos P2

To start off the week: we had to take the Lego's we made in Maya and put it  in an Unreal scene. Since I had already textures the Lego's in Maya, it only needed a few minor tweaks to make it pop in Unreal.

After that was just setting the scene. Given the ambiguity of my creation: I though it was fitting to lean into it with the scene. Taking that element of the unknown and turning it up to imbue a sense of looming doom.

Here's how it came out:

Annnnnnd that's about it. I wanted the focus to be on the thing, and to turn its interesting quality into its defining one.

Hope you enjoyed. Chao for now.

Week 3 - Common Art

Lighting Project - Skeletor!

This week was about values, how lights draw our eyes to important subject areas, and darks drown things out. We were given a selection of images to choose from for the project, and I chose a classic villian to value and shade in monochrome.

Here's the result:

That's about it! I really enjoyed this project and it helped me balance my values better. Def gonna be double checking my values on any future projects too (If I remember lol)

Week 3 - 3D Art

Week 3 - Lego Project

For 3D art week 3d, we had to create a Lego thing. Anything. Made of Lego's specifically.

So I... made a thing. I could've just made a preset thing, but I wanted to just do whatever seemed interesting (and making my own thing allowed to me to adjust scope on the fly)

Here's what came out:

I really like how it came out. It's a shame I had to cut a few things because some pieces are surprisingly difficult to model; and some just didn't look good once I had it finished.

RIP Fish tail.

That's all. Adios.

Week 2 - Common Art

Silhouettes

This week we were tasked with Silhouetting some redesigns from a game of our choice. Though the important thing to note was it had to be a REdesign, not something entirely original.

So as a Kirby enjoyer ( poyo ) I took it apon myself to do more Kirby related stuff. And I threw a twist in there that I would only focus on the enemies of the pink menace, which all had much more varied and dynamic shape design to work with.

So I scoured through every single Kirby enemy, picked my favs, slimmed down the list, and of course robo-fied them as that seemed interesting to me.

Here's how it came out:

And of course, my reference sheet:

That's all. I really enjoyed this task and it made me flex my creative muscles. Hope you like them.

Week 2 - 3D Art

MineCraft Level

Our second project in 3D was to make a Minecraft inspired level; which involved making textures, exporting to maya, combining there with models, exporting to unreal, and finally putting it all together in a scene. Given the excessive effort that went into the last one, I opted for a more simplistic structure, but still devoted plenty of time to making it interesting!

Here's the results:

That is all for today

Week 1 - Common Art

Shape Language

This week we learned about shape language. It was pretty cut and dry as I had heard of it and practiced it myself.
